Redact-AI — Privacy Policy

Summary

Redact-AI helps you remove likely personal information from text you are composing in supported AI chat pages and from PDFs you open in the extension’s PDF tool. Processing is designed to run on your device in the browser. This extension does not send your drafts to servers we operate, and we do not sell your data.

What the extension processes

Text you choose to scan for redaction (for example, text from a supported chat composer or text extracted from a PDF you upload in the PDF tool).
Technical progress information (for example, model download progress) used only to update the user interface.

Where processing happens

Inference runs locally using packaged WebAssembly and extension scripts. We do not operate a backend that receives your prompts or PDF content for redaction.

Network access

On first use (and occasionally afterward), the extension may download machine-learning model files and related assets over HTTPS from Hugging Face and related CDNs (as configured in the extension). Those requests are initiated by your browser from your device. Hugging Face’s infrastructure may receive standard web request metadata (for example, IP address and requested URLs) as with any HTTPS download. We do not control Hugging Face’s logging or retention; see their privacy documentation for details.

Supported chat websites

The extension runs only on the sites declared in its permissions. It injects a user interface into those pages so you can trigger local redaction. It is not intended to read unrelated site data except what is needed to read and replace text in the composer you are using, when you use the feature.

Storage on your device

The extension may cache downloaded model assets and related data using browser storage mechanisms (for example, IndexedDB) so repeat use does not re-download large files. This data remains on your device unless you remove it using browser or extension controls.

Permissions (high level)

Offscreen document: used to run the local machine-learning workload in line with Manifest V3 patterns.
Host permissions: access to supported AI chat sites for the content script, and to Hugging Face hosts for model assets.
Other declared permissions: used only as required for the features described in the listing; the extension does not create an account for you and does not upload your content to our servers.

Accuracy and responsibility

Automatic detection can miss sensitive information or remove too much. Output is an aid only and not a legal or compliance guarantee. You remain responsible for reviewing content before you send or share it.

Children

The extension is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

We may update this policy when the extension or practices change. The “effective date” will be updated accordingly.
